Dear Students,
Welcome to the Faculty of Science and Letters of Balıkesir University.
Our Faculty is one of the core academic units of the University with its multidisciplinary structure that brings together natural sciences such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, as well as social and humanities disciplines including Psychology, Sociology, History, Geography, and Turkish Language and Literature. This rich academic diversity offers our students the opportunity not only to develop expertise in their own fields, but also to think interactively across different scientific disciplines and gain a broad academic perspective.
At the Faculty of Science and Letters, we embrace an educational approach that is based on scientific thinking, grounded in universal values, and centered on students. Through the complementary nature of natural and social sciences, we aim to educate individuals who can combine analytical thinking with social awareness. This approach forms the foundation for understanding scientific, cultural, and social issues from a multidimensional perspective in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world.
In today’s world, where knowledge is constantly produced and transformed, the fundamental mission of universities is not merely to transfer existing knowledge, but to teach students how to access knowledge, evaluate it critically, and make meaningful interpretations. The educational activities carried out in our Faculty are planned in line with this understanding and are regularly updated in accordance with contemporary requirements. Our goal is to educate individuals who can effectively use scientific methods, think critically, adhere to ethical values, possess a strong sense of social responsibility, and adopt lifelong learning as a principle.
Our student-centered approach is one of the core principles of the Faculty of Science and Letters. In addition to academic achievement, we place great importance on our students’ personal, social, and cultural development. Accordingly, we prioritize curricula that are aligned with current scientific developments, employ applied and research-based learning methods, and encourage active student participation. Our Faculty aims to educate students not as passive recipients of information, but as active learners, researchers, and producers of knowledge.
Our academic staff consists of highly qualified, experienced, and scientifically productive scholars in their respective fields. Through their national and international research activities, our faculty members contribute significantly to the academic strength of our Faculty and share this accumulated knowledge with students through courses, projects, and academic events. Communication between students and faculty members is maintained in an open, accessible, and supportive manner, and students’ academic progress is closely monitored through the academic advising system.
With its interdisciplinary structure, the Faculty of Science and Letters aims to provide students with a broad intellectual outlook. This academic environment, where natural sciences coexist with social and humanities disciplines, facilitates a deeper understanding of the relationship between scientific knowledge and social reality. In addition to academic studies, our Faculty considers cultural, artistic, and social activities as an integral part of university life and actively supports such initiatives.
In line with the principles of ethical values, transparency, equality, and participation that form the foundation of our institutional identity, creating a fair, secure, and inclusive academic environment where every student can freely express themselves is among our top priorities. Students’ opinions and suggestions are regarded as valuable guidance in the continuous improvement of our educational processes.
As the Faculty of Science and Letters of Balıkesir University, our academic objective is to be a faculty with high scientific productivity, contributing to society, and recognized at both national and international levels. We value your academic and personal development within this multidisciplinary environment and remain committed to supporting you throughout your academic journey.
