The Faculty of Science and Letters was established by Law No. 3837, which entered into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette dated 11 July 1992 and numbered 21281.
The Faculty commenced its educational activities in 1993 with the Departments of Turkish Language and Literature, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. In 2000, the Departments of Geography and History were opened for education.
The Department of Sociology began admitting students in the 2006–2007 Academic Year, followed by the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics in the 2013–2014 Academic Year, and the Department of Psychology in the 2019–2020 Academic Year.
